After reading Jo Lawson-Tancred's timely new release, AI and the Art Market, I became increasingly interested in how AI developments are transforming various roles and their practices within the contemporary art market. The book’s exploration of AI-driven valuation models, algorithmic curation, and the evolving role of art advisors in a technology-driven landscape resonated deeply with my research at Columbia University. Lawson-Tancred’s insights into how AI challenges traditional connoisseurship and disrupts established market hierarchies have led me to question how art professionals can effectively integrate these tools without compromising the human expertise that has long defined the industry. This has inspired me to explore strategies for leveraging AI to enhance accessibility, transparency, and efficiency in the art market while preserving the critical role of curatorial judgment and advisory expertise.
